What is Ceramic Coating?

Ceramic coatings are a clear semi-permanent silica solution specially formulated to protect your vehicles paint and other exterior surfaces like windshields, trim, rims, headlights, and can be applied to paint-protection film, vehicle wraps and more!

There are a lot of options for ceramic coatings, some specially formulated for specific surfaces with specific preparation & application processes that need to be followed to get the full effect and protection out of the coating. Most ceramic coatings are applied as a clear liquid via an applicator pad to a prepared vehicle panel in a meticulous crosshatch pattern to ensure every square inch of your vehicle is coated. The product is left on the panel for a specific amount of time per manufactures specifications to “flash”, this is where the magic happens, the specially formulated product crystalizes at the molecular level bonding to the surface of your vehicles paint, coating the surface with a very durable and highly hydrophobic surface.

Hydrophobic means the ability of an object to repel water and making your vehicles surface very hard for anything to stick to, water beads up and rolls off the surface, adding another layer of super hard and durable protection. Other benefits include the enhanced depth and richness of color it gives to your paint while greatly improving the gloss and shine!

These coatings are so durable that manufacturers rate them by YEARS of protection, and warranty their products. Ceramic coatings are usually rated from 3 – 10 years of protection depending on the manufacture and the specific product line. This again is achieved by the super durable crystalline hydrophobic coating that is created when properly installed, due to this chemical bonding and creation of a new layer, the car’s factory paint job remains untouched, it will protect your car’s exterior from things like mud, tree sap, bird droppings, bug guts and the harsh road chemicals used in the winter months here in Colorado.

Unlike car wax, a ceramic coating doesn’t need to be applied as often, it does not break down in normal weather conditions like rain, the hot summer or freezing harsh winters that Colorado is known for. Ceramic coatings are a much longer lasting alternative to waxing. The main idea is to prevent dirt, grime, and stain marks from appearing on the paint job and ruining the clear coat.

After a coating has been applied the surface is usually able to be cleaned off very easily by simply rinsing the vehicle off, it is recommended to have a decontamination wash done to the vehicle every 3 months to maintain the hydrophobic properties of the ceramic coating.

Graphene

If you're looking at ceramic coatings, chances are you've come across graphene treatments as well. Graphene coating is similar in concept to a ceramic one, in that it provides semi-permanent protection, but it’s based on carbon rather than silica. There’s a range of graphene solutions on the market, from relatively low-cost sprays for the DIYer to high-concentrate liquid formulas used by professionals.

CERAMIC COATING ADVANTAGES & BENEFITS

Protection from Harmful UV Rays, You can only imagine the damage that the sun’s harmful UV rays can do to your car’s paint job. A ceramic coating will protect your car’s paint from oxidizing, preventing it from fading and wearing a dull look. This is absolutely critical if you park your car outside especially considering the hot sunny summers and harsh freezing winters that Colorado’s known for.

Protection from Chemical Stains arising from acidic contaminants in the air and the harsh chemicals applied to our roads in the winter are all potentially damaging  to your vehicles paint. A coating will prevent these contaminants from penetrating into the paint.

Hydrophobic Nature, Ease of Cleaning, When it comes to waxing and other types of detailing, washing your car becomes a headache. With ceramic coating, you don’t have to worry about the polymer wearing off. Not only does it blend with your car’s paint but also repels water. This means that all water-based dirt and grime will bead on the surface and eventually slide off. A quick jet wash afterward and you have yourself a spotless, car.

Candy-Like Gloss
